How much to bet

Bet sizing should start with a fixed entertainment budget, not a target profit. The safest amount to bet is an amount you can afford to lose.

Gambling risk Gambling involves risk. You must be 18+ or older where required, follow the laws that apply to you, pay any taxes you owe, and never gamble more than you can afford to lose.

Set a budget first

  • Decide the maximum you can lose before you deposit or play.
  • Keep gambling funds separate from rent, bills, savings, debt payments, and emergency money.
  • Use smaller bet sizes so one unlucky streak does not consume your whole budget.
  • Set a time limit as well as a money limit.
  • Stop when you hit your loss limit, win target, or time limit.

Think in percentages

Many players choose a small fraction of their entertainment budget per bet, such as 1% or less. This does not make gambling safe or profitable, but it can reduce the chance that one bet or short streak uses the full budget.

Avoid chasing losses

Increasing bet size to recover losses can make losses grow faster. No doubling strategy, progression system, or timing pattern removes the house edge or guarantees a recovery.

When to lower or stop betting

  • You are betting more than planned.
  • You feel stressed, angry, rushed, or desperate to recover money.
  • You are hiding gambling from others.
  • You are using borrowed money or money needed for essentials.
  • You are playing longer than intended.
  • Gambling stops feeling recreational.

Taxes and records

You are responsible for any tax reporting or payment obligations that apply to you. Keep your own records of deposits, withdrawals, wins, losses, and transaction signatures.
